Indian Feast, University of Queensland, St Lucia

Indian Feast

Relatively recently, an Indian Feast has opened at the University of Queensland.  As a fan of Indian food, I have been meaning to try it for much of that time.  The Friday before last I did just that.  It must be pointed out that this particular Indian Feast is not an a la carte restaurant.  It is more of a food stall, with pre-prepared curries waiting in bain maries.  As such the selection is a little limited.  Of this limited selection, the most appealing curry to me on that day was a chicken korma.  Korma is not generally my favourite curry, but up until this point I have enjoyed it every time I have sampled it.  This trend ended on that day.  First of all, the sauce was very thin.  I have never been served a curry with sauce this thin.  This alone would not necessarily be a bad thing but the sauce itself lacked flavour, and what little flavour there was was not entirely pleasant.  The chicken came in large chunks, which can run the risk of the meat being underdone, and underdone it was.  It had a pinkness to it.  Pinkness is not a bad thing in a steak or a hamburger, but you do not want your chicken to be pink.  In addition to being undercooked, the chicken had bits of gristle in it, which again is something you don't want.  The naan I ordered to accompany the korma was probably the best part of this meal, but even it had problems.  It was on the tough side.  This could be attributed to the fact that I purchased my meal several hours before consuming it.  But what I think compounded this problem was that the naans too were sitting in a bain marie.  Even at casual dining establishments such as Indian Feast, the naan is usually prepared when the order is placed.  So perhaps had this naan been fresh, it would have been better, but given the poor quality of the rest of my meal I can't be sure of this.  Despite this being a negative experience, I was willing to give Indian Feast the benefit of the doubt.  Perhaps their korma is weak, but their other curries are better.  However, after speaking to my father, who also had an Indian Fest curry that day, I doubt it.  He had nothing positive to say about his curry either.  So I really can't see a set of circumstances that will result in me returning to Indian Feast.
